Dolphin Viewer 3

Here’s the next Dolphin Viewer 3 for you:

New or fixed in this version:

  • A fix for BUG-822 (Graphics Preferences slider now has 6 steps instead of the old 4, and the higher settings get applied properly now as long as they don’t crash the computer).
  • MAINT-1672: Correcting the issue where changing position and hovertext on a child prim was broken and the child prim would not move.
  • FIRE-4855/FIRE-8268: Fix for objects muted by name not being muted when worn as an attachment by Ansariel Hiller from Firestorm.
  • Update to the latest viewer-development source, bringing more performance improvements to large groups and some crash fixes.
  • “MU-Pose” emoting with a non-alphanumeric character, like a german umlaut, right after the colon now works properly in IM, thanks to Ansariel Hiller from Firestorm.

The downloads are on the download page.

Dolphin Viewer 3

Here’s the next Dolphin Viewer 3: with Group Services update.

New or fixed in this release:

  • The underlying sources have been brought up-to-date with the most recent development viewer (25145:321c529951ae) and Marine Kelley’s latest RLV
  • The random crashes when refreshing textures have been fixed.
  • The inventory now has correct focus on the filter text input box on opening.

Known issues:

  • The bug that makes prims not always move properly when the script changes position and hovertext at the same time is still around.
  • Linden Lab™ have introduced a change to the graphics preferences that makes it impossible to go above your recommended graphics settings by using only the “Quality” slider. This means, if your graphics card is rated for “High”, setting the slider to “Ultra” won’t change a thing. It is still possible to change the single settings in the advanced view though. I’m currently investigating a solution to this.

A few more details about all the new things that come from Linden Lab in this release:

  • Improved group handling for large groups (> 10,000 members). Basically, it is now possible to actually see the member list of groups with over ten thousand members, as well as edit group settings and descriptions for groups this large. On the other hand, the release of the server side code for this means that you cannot edit group descriptions of groups with more than 10,000 members with older viewers anymore.
  • Objects made from prims created by more than one person now show “multiple” instead of “unknown” when looking at the object profile in your inventory.
  • The new maturity rating functions:
When you try to enter a region that has a higher rating than your preferences, you get a popup offering you to change your preferences and continue on your way, or not enter.
When you try to teleport someone to a region with a higher setting than that person has in their preferences you get a notification if applicable.
(Note: I have not been able to actually get to see such a notice, I am pretty sure it needs server side code as well which has not been rolled out yet.)

Dolphin Viewer 3 with Pathfinding

Here’s the first release of Dolphin Viewer 3 with support for manipulating pathfinding settings,

New in this release:

  • (almost) Full support for handling pathfinding settings (note: the navmesh preview does not work yet as I am still waiting for my Havoc sublicense from Linden Lab).
  • Marine Kelley’s RLV has been upgraded to the latest version,
  • Area search has been reworked and improved by Techwolf Lupindo from Phoenix-Firestorm.
  • No more support for logging into opensim-based grids (The reasoning behind this has been explained here).
The 3.3.24 installers will stay available on the download page.

The download links are on the download page. – The Sailor’s Mini-map, Mark Two

It has been a while since I had the opportunity to announce a new feature that had the potential to change how people use the viewer.

It is with my heartfelt thanks to Kitty Barnett from Catznip for the nifty pieces of code and for allowing me to use them, and to seanabrady for pointing me in the direction of that neat piece of work that I can announce:

The Sailor’s Mini-map, Mark Two.

This is how we all know and hate the Mini-map:

This is what Dolphin Viewer 3 has now:

The new features at a glance:

  • The Mini-map now uses world map tiles instead of the land textures – no more blue where there should be land (note: world map tiles do not get updated on the server in realtime. In areas with ongoing terraforming, use the regular map for navigating vessels.)
  • The Mini-map now shows parcel boundaries (white lines).
  • The mini-map now shows parcels that are for sale in yellow, same as the world map.
  • The Mini-map now shows parcels that you cannot enter in red (note: due to technical limitations that can’t be overcome on the viewer side, banlined parcels only show when you’re already “really close”, roughly 4 meters.)

All this can of course be disabled in the context menu of the mini map, and in Preferences->Dolphin Viewer 3->Navigation.

As an added bonus the Mini-map does not have a space consuming title bar anymore.

Other features of this release:

  • Reset graphics preferences to default button in status panel, next to draw distance slider, labeled “GReset”.
  • Z offset reset button relabeled to “Z” to get room for GReset button.
  • “Refresh texture” also refreshes sculptmaps of sculpted prims (corrected version of my own attempt, from Firestorm).
  • “Restore inworld” now also sets the proper land group if you have “Rez with land group” switched on and are a member of that group.

One thing to take note of is that this is the last version that has support for logging into other grids than Second Life Main and Second Life beta. The reasons for this have already been explained here.

The downloads are on the download page, as usual.

Dolphin Viewer 3 –

Here’s another release,

New in this one:

  • “Restore to last in-world position” for objects in your inventory is back.
  • Display of the previous owner in the edit toolbox has been ported from Phoenix / FireStorm.
  • The shape editor panel now shows the fully corrected avatar height (as measured by stretching a prim from the top of your head to the soles of your feet, minus shoes).
  • The login panel has been visually cleaned up.

The downloads are on the download page, as usual.

Dolphin Viewer 3 –

Here’s new version of the 3.3-based Dolphin Viewer 3.

New in this release:

  • Marine Kelley’s RLV code has been updated to
  • A fix for a bug that causes sporadic viewer stalls on linux whenever text is printed on screen (e.g. local chat).
  • A “Reset!” button on the machinima floater. Be aware that this button resets every single setting that is on any page in that floater to its defaults without further warning.
  • Windlight sky presets from Annan Adored.
  • Removed duplicate Windlight skies.
  • Renamed some Windlight skies to achieve a more consistent naming pattern.

There is one known bug in this release that has to do with RLV and relays. It basically makes traps that change your outfit work incorrectly. It is due to a workaround for a rather old RLV bug that has not been fixed, which makes changing saved outfits work incorrectly.

I am monitoring the bug in RLV – if you are  interested in more info, here is a link.

For the time being, if you can change the order of RLV commands in the traps you’re using, make sure your traps issue any “@addoutfit=n” after any “@remoutfit” command.

The downloads are on the download page.

Dolphin Viewer 3 –

I’ve decided to bring out another 3.3-based Dolphin Viewer 3, since the Lab seems to be somewhat challenged about fixing the showstoppers in the 3.4.2 tree …

Here’s the next version of the 3.3-based Dolphin Viewer 3.

  • The ‘:’ shortcut to emoting now works properly if the first character after the colon is a “special” character, e.g. a german umlaut, like ä or ü. For example, “:übt seilspringen” will now properly be interpreted as “/me übt seilspringen”.
  • AutoCloseOOC now works properly in local chat even when RLV is disabled.
  • Landmarks that are embedded in notecards now open properly on click (this copies the landmark to your inventory, therefore it can take a moment if the asset server is slow).
  • The #DV3/AO folders won’t be created unless the Client AO is actually enabled, therefore it is now possible to delete the folders if you do not use the Client AO at all.
  • The Mac OS X package is now digitally signed (A new security feature on Mac OS X 10.8, which by default allows only digitally signed software to be executed).
  • RenderVolumeLOD now defaults to 4.0 on “High” graphics.

New features:

  • The Friends list now has a menu option to hide the “All Friends” part.
  • The highlighted outline when editing something can be switched on or off with a new keyboard shortcut, Alt-H.
  • The group list shows the number of groups, and the number of remaining free group slots.
  • The group list now shows all groups that have “Show in Profile” turned off in yellow. Note that in some cases all your groups show in yellow on first login with this version. To fix that you have to refresh the list by activating a different group than the one you have active.

The downloads are on the download page.

Dolphin Viewer 3 –

Here’s the next one, Dolphin Viewer 3

New in this release:

  • Added: hotkey strg-alt-o to open or close the Outfits floater.
  • Added: an option (in Preferences->Dolphin Viewer 3->Builder) that lets you choose to save scripts as mono instead of lsl2 when editing a script directly in your inventory.
  • Added: a button in the Window title (right next to the play/pause button, it has the letter “A” on it) to switch “Auto play media” on or off.
  • FIRE-7286 : Hidden Client Phantom feature from menu options – due to being broken by PATHBUG-122. (The avatar phantom feature has been made unavailable since it does not work due to a bug in the server code.)

The downloads are on the download page.

Dolphin Viewer 3 –

Here’s the newest Dolphin Viewer. No major changes here, just some smaller tweaks and fixes.

  • Improved: Asset Blacklist now stores object names and the region name where your avatar was located when you blacklisted the item.
  • Fixed: Clicking a secondlife:// link on a webpage on Windows now properly sends the slurl to a running Dolphin Viewer *.
  • Added the improved avatar vertex weights from STORM-1800, which allows the bending and stretching of the avatar shape to be better.
  • Added a  slider for MeshMaxConcurrentRequests in Prefs->Dolphin->Graphics. This improves the rezzing times for mesh objects in areas with a lot of mesh.
  • Changed: Media Filter list is now shared between all avatars used under the same OS user account on one computer.

The downloads are on the download page.

* Note:
If you have RLV active, sending a slurl to a running Dolphin Viewer on Windows does not work until  the login processes are completed, because the viewer needs to know if the avatar is under RLV teleport restrictions or not.
