Dolphin Viewer 2 2.5.5.14985

The DolphinViewer2 has been updated to version 2.5.5.14985.

New in this release:

  • The Dolphin Viewer 2 now shows song titles and artists in local chat (visible only when you are logged in), if the stream contains such data. The information viewable whenever a stream changes.
Linux users only: To make this work on linux you have to edit the secondlife wrapper script. Remove the # in front of the line that reads “export LL_BAD_OPENAL_DRIVER=x” to switch to fmod, without which this feature does not work. This change is going to be incorporated in a future release of the Dolphin Viewer 2 as soon as I can be sure that using fmod instead of openAL doesn’t have any negative impact.
  • Domains in the media filter black- and whitelists are now treated as substrings when matching media urls.
What does that mean?  When you encounter lots of addresses from the same hoster (e.g. addresses like stream01.shoutcast.com and stream02.shoutcast.com), you can now manually add a whitelist entry “shoutcast.com”, which then would allow all addresses that contain “shoutcast.com” to play.  This needs to be done with careful consideration, and do not leave out leading dots, or you could have a whitelist entry “shoutcast.com”, which could also match a site like redzone.myfakeshoutcast.com.
  • The minimap range rings have been changed to white for improved visibility, and now there are two rings, one at chat range and one at shout range. To switch them on, right-click the Minimap and enable “Chat Ring”.
  • On linux, the viewer startup script creates a folder /tmp/$(whoami)/slcache. This is for use as the sl cache folder in case your linux installation uses tmpfs on /tmp. If you want to use it you have to manually change your cache location to that folder.

Dolphin Viewer 1.5.49.3627

The Dolphin Viewer, codebase 1.5, has been updated to 1.5.49.3627.

New in this release:

  • New NoObscuredURLs patch: backport from SnowStorm of the removal of the now useless (deprecated) “Hide URL” feature for parcel media and streaming audio URLs.
  • New MessageTemplateUpdates patch: backport from SnowStorm, updating the message templates (cosmetic change).
  • New BetterPreferrencesGraphics patch: adds the “Max non-impostors” settings to the custom Graphics Preferences panel, and the “Object-object occlusion” setting to the hardware graphic settings floater, as well as an explanation as to why some settings are disabled in the latter.
  • New BetterDebugSettings patch: makes the Debug Settings available from the login screen (code by Siana Gearz), saves the floater position and allows up to 1024 characters (instead of 255) per string variable.
  • New DebugGLCrashFix patch: fixes the crash in Advanced -> Rendering -> Debug GL (by Thickbrick Sleaford).
  • New llimageFixes patch: fixes a potential crash bug and improves performance (code by Siana Gearz).
  • New VectorizeFixes patch: fixes a crash bug in the SSE2 vectorization path (by Armin Weatherwax). Skin vectorization is now enabled by default.
  • New AwayTimeout patch: removes an Advanced Menu Debug setting (AllowIdleAFK), replacing it with the possibility to set the AFKTimeout setting to ‘0’ so to disable completely the auto-AFK feature. Also allows setting the timeout to up to 999 seconds (instead of 600) and optimizes this part of the code for speed. If you had the “Advanced” -> “Character” -> “Character Test” -> “Go Away/AFK When Idle” setting unchecked, go to the Preferences floater, General tab and set the Away Timeout value to ‘0’.
  • New lineSegmentIntersectFix patch: fixes a potential cause for a crash bug (backport from Snowglobe v2 by Siana Gearz).
  • Updated MediaFilter patch: this new version improves security and usability over previous versions.
  • Updated RevertUIchanges patch: in this new version, the “Shout” button was removed from the chat bar and the “Say” button was replaced with a flyout button. The menu also contains the “Shout” and “Whisper” items (saves space for the chat input line, and adds the Whisper functionality that was previously only available via the SHIFT ENTER keyboard shortcut).
  • Updated BlurryAndGreyTextures patch: this new version brings more backports from SnowStorm and adds two Advanced settings (in Advanced -> Rendering): “Boost Attachments Textures” is enabled by default (disabling it saves memory in very crowded areas but causes the viewer to fail to load attachments textures on other avatars at full resolution; “Full Res Textures” is disabled by default and allows the viewer to load all textures at full resolution, regardless of their importance to the camera (this causes a *massive* memory consumption).
  • Updated ReinstateOldSearchTabs patch: this new version declares as deprecated some of the now unused search-related messages (DirPopularQuery & Co).
  • Updated AlignTool patch: this new version includes improvements borrowed from Imprudence/Phoenix/Singularity viewer teams.
  • Updated AutoMaxGroups patch: this new version properly sets the maximum number of groups for some OpenSim grids that used to make the viewer wrongly assume that the maximum was 100.
  • Updated MuteBlueDialogs patch: this new version fixes a bug that prevented the muting to work properly.
  • Updated CoolVLViewerBranding patch: updates to the list of contributors.

Dolphin Viewer 2.5.3.14965 – good bye web profiles!

The Dolphin Viewer 2 has been updated to version 2.5.3.14965!

New in this release:

  • The code has been re-based to the official Linden Lab 2.5.1 source. All bugfixes mentioned in the official 2.5.1 release notes are part of the Dolphin Viewer 2, with two exceptions listed below:
    1. The Minimap has been removed from the “People Nearby” tab.
    2. The profiles have been reverted back to the older but working Sidebar profile display.
The web profiles were just way too broken in way too many ways for me to be happy with having them in a viewer meant for actual daily use.
  • A race condition in the media black-/whitelisting code leading to the stream at the login that you logged in to not being properly handled, has been fixed.
  • Two patches from Snowstorm development (STORM-1019 and STORM-1040), which let you bring up beacons for objects that use “Media on a prim”, have been imported. To activate, go to World -> Show -> Beacons.
  • STORM-1068: An (optional) ring around your position on the Minimap with a 20m radius, indicating “chat range” from your avatar’s position. To activate, right click on the Minimap -> select Range Ring.
  • WEB-1819: The search floater now retains the last search result after a teleport.
  • The popup that appears when you enable the “Custom port” in Preferences -> Setup can now be closed properly.

If you experience sculpted prims looking “weird” after you upgrade to this version, clear your cache and relog. There have been major internal changes in texture caching between the official 2.5.0 and 2.5.1 sources. To clear cache, go to Preferences -> Setup, there’s a “Clear Cache” button next to the cache folder location field.

As far as I understand this JIRA post, Redzone et al. are violating the TOS.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-24746?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=247334#comment-247334

Soft Linden commented on VWR-24746:
———————————–

A number of you have ARd or sent notes about the other system we removed from the marketplace, pointing out that the creator plans to continue operating in violation of ToS. Stay tuned, and I’ll make sure folks understand this internally.

In the mean time, if you see one of his resale vendors, you should Abuse Report the vendor’s owner. File the AR against the object’s owner whether the vendor is owned by the creator, an alt of the creator, or set out by others for commission. For the AR type, select “Harassment->Soliciting/Inciting others to Violate ToS.” Feel free to add a link to this comment.

As always, file ARs based on first-hand knowledge. There’s nothing wrong with peers filing additional ARs to underscore importance. However, each person filing should take a close look and ensure they understand the object of the AR and how they would personally justify the AR if asked.

Dolphin Viewer 2.5.2.14654

New in this release:

Enhanced media security against spyware and related evils (a.k.a. zF RedZone) is here!

  • Sione Lomu’s media filter patch:
    • For details about this important patch and instructions on how to use the Media Filter, go to this link.
    • Note: it is no longer possible to obscure media URLs in the About Land settings (STORM-1037).
  • Katharine Berry’s Flickr Uploader patch:
    • Allows direct uploads to flickr from within the “Take Snapshot” floater.
    • Note: the first time you use it, you will be prompted to associate the Dolphin Viewer with the flickr account you wish to upload to.
    • Machine tags such as the SLURL, camera position etc are part of the uploaded image data.
  • Improvements to the “People Nearby” radar functions:
    • “People Nearby” now works above 1,000 meters.
    • “People Nearby” range slider has been increased to a maximum distance of 2,048 meters.
    • To access the radar, go to the Sidebar –> People–> Nearby.
    • Example: To teleport to an avatar on your radar, use the Zoom, right click on an avatar name and choose “Zoom In”. Once the zoom is complete, use double click teleport to land beside them.
  • The updater service for official Linden Lab viewer versions has been permanently disabled in this release, so that the updater will not try to find an update for Dolphin Viewer on the Second Life web site. The setup option for the updater service has been hidden.
  • The “Favorites on login screen” bug fixed. This bug would break that feature if you entered your username in the firstname.lastname format.
  • The “Me” menu has been cleaned up.
